Burgfrieden
Burgfrieden is a German term referring to a state of truce or peace, particularly within a castle or fortified settlement, often declared during a siege or internal conflict. The concept originates from medieval times when a castle was a self-contained community. During times of siege, a temporary cessation of hostilities might be agreed upon for specific purposes, such as allowing women, children, and the elderly to leave the besieged fortress for humanitarian reasons, or to bury the dead from either side. This was a pragmatic arrangement rather than a sign of surrender or reconciliation.
The term "Burgfrieden" could also be applied more broadly to a period of internal peace or stability
