Pieter Bruegel the Elder, often simply Bruegel, was a Flemish Renaissance painter and printmaker who produced some of the most enduring images of 16th‑century Northern Europe. Renowned for crowded, meticulously detailed scenes of landscapes and peasant life, his work combined lively observation with moral and social commentary.
