BoxPierce

BoxPierce is a fictional open hardware and software platform used in examples of edge computing and modular IoT deployments. The concept envisions a compact base unit known as the Box, which can be extended with expansion modules called Pierce cards to provide additional I/O, processing power, and connectivity. The Box is designed to run a lightweight operating system designed for reliability and security in distributed environments. The software stack supports container-based applications, secure remote management, and a standardized API for integration with orchestration systems.

While BoxPierce does not refer to a real product in production, the design goals are commonly cited in discussions of modular edge computing: fast deployment, energy efficiency, privacy and security, and scalability from small deployments to large fleets.
