The environmental profile of biopolymers hinges on sourcing, life‑cycle analysis, and end‑of‑life pathways. When produced using sustainably managed biomass and disposed of under proper industrial composting or anaerobic digestion, biopolymers can close the loop in the circular economy. However, challenges remain in competing with established petrochemical polymers on cost, performance consistency, and infrastructure readiness.
