Bindemedelsystemet

Bindemedelsystemet is a term used in Swedish industry and research to describe the set of materials and methods used to bind components together in a product, structure, or process. It refers to the integrated system consisting of the binder itself, any fillers or pigments, additives, solvents or plasticizers, and the techniques used to apply and cure the material. The choice of binder system depends on the substrate, the required mechanical and functional properties, processing conditions, and environmental exposure.

Common binder types include cementitious binders (Portland cement, lime, gypsum) for mortars and concretes; polymer binders (epoxy, acrylic, polyurethane) used in coatings and composites; natural or synthetic adhesives; and, in pharmaceuticals, tablet binders such as cellulose derivatives. Additives such as plasticizers, accelerators, retarders, stabilizers, and rheology modifiers tailor workability, curing behavior, wetting, and long-term performance. The binding system may also involve carriers, solvents, or water as the medium, depending on the application.

Applications are wide: construction materials and civil engineering (mortars, concretes, plasters); wood and furniture joinery; paper and packaging adhesives; ceramics and composites; dentistry bonding systems; and pharmaceutical binder systems in tablet production. Performance depends on adhesion to substrates, cohesion within the material, curing or setting time, durability under service conditions, chemical compatibility, and safety considerations.
