Beutefindung, or "prey finding," refers to the process by which predators locate and identify potential prey in their natural environment. This behavior is fundamental to the survival and ecological role of carnivorous and omnivorous animals, influencing predator-prey dynamics and food chain stability.

The methods of beutefindung vary widely depending on species, habitat, and prey characteristics. Many predators rely on sensory cues such as sight, smell, hearing, or touch. For example, large cats like lions use their keen sense of sight to spot herbivores from a distance, while dogs and wolves depend heavily on their acute sense of smell to track prey over long distances.
