Beukenfamilie

Beukenfamilie refers to the family of plants known scientifically as Fagaceae. This family includes a variety of trees and shrubs, most notably beech and oak trees. Other genera within the Fagaceae family include Castanea (chestnut), Lithocarpus (tan oak), and Nothofagus (southern beech). These trees are widespread in temperate and tropical regions of the Northern Hemisphere, with Nothofagus species found in the Southern Hemisphere.

Fagaceae are characterized by their simple, alternate leaves, often with toothed or lobed margins. They are typically monoecious, meaning individual trees bear both male and female flowers. The fruits of the Fagaceae family are nuts, which are enclosed in a prickly or spiny husk called a cupule. For example, acorns are the familiar nuts of oak trees, while beechnuts are the edible nuts of beech trees. Chestnuts are also well-known members of this family.
