Bethiah is a fictional coastal city-state in the fantasy world of Elyria. It lies on the eastern shore at the mouth of the Renara River, with a sheltered harbor that serves as a regional trade hub. The name Bethiah traces to an ancient Bethari word thought to mean “harbor of winds.” The city experiences a temperate climate with mild winters and warm summers, supporting a dense urban core along the waterfront.

History and governance. Bethiah was founded in the 9th century by seafaring families and developed into a bustling trading center between inland realms and overseas merchants. A major flood in the early 12th century reshaped the harbor and contributed to the creation of the Bethian National Archives. Today, Bethiah is governed as a city-state by the Guild Council, a body comprising representatives from twelve major guilds, led by a mayor who oversees civil administration. Citizenship and apprenticeship requirements are tied to participation in city life.
