Bestückungsmaschinen, also known as pick-and-place machines, are automated machines used in the electronics manufacturing industry to place surface-mount devices (SMD) onto printed circuit boards (PCBs). These machines are essential for high-volume production, enabling rapid and precise placement of components.

The primary function of a bestückungsmaschine is to pick up tiny electronic components from feeders or trays and accurately place them onto designated pads on a PCB. This process involves several key steps. First, the machine identifies the component's position using a vision system, which corrects for any slight misalignments. Then, a vacuum nozzle or gripper picks up the component. Finally, the machine moves to the PCB and places the component with high accuracy, often down to a few micrometers.

They can be programmed to follow complex placement patterns and can be integrated into automated production lines alongside other equipment like screen printers and reflow ovens.
