Baslinjedimensionering, also known as baseline dimensioning, is a fundamental concept in engineering and technical drawing used to establish a clear and unambiguous reference for measurements on a part or assembly. This method ensures that all dimensions are derived from a single, fixed reference point or surface, known as the baseline. By doing so, it minimizes errors and simplifies the interpretation of drawings, making it easier for manufacturers to produce accurate components.

In baseline dimensioning, dimensions are typically arranged in a chain, starting from the baseline and extending outward. Each subsequent dimension builds upon the previous one, creating a cumulative measurement from the baseline. This approach is particularly useful in linear layouts, such as those found in shafts, slots, or flat surfaces. It is also commonly applied in mechanical and structural engineering to define the positioning of holes, edges, or other critical features relative to a primary reference.

The primary advantage of baseline dimensioning is its clarity and precision. Since all measurements originate from a single point, there is no ambiguity regarding the location of features. This reduces the risk of misinterpretation during manufacturing, which can lead to costly errors or rework.
