Basketbanor

Basketbanor are playing areas designed for the sport of basketball. They can be indoors in gymnasiums or outdoors in parks and recreational spaces. The term is commonly used in Swedish to refer to both full-size courts used for organized competition and smaller practice spaces for casual play.

An official court is a rectangle with two baskets on opposite ends. In international competition, the playing area measures 28 meters in length and 15 meters in width. Key markings include the center line, boundary lines, the free-throw line at 4.6 meters from the backboard, and the three-point line at a distance that depends on the competition rules. The basket rim is mounted at a height of 3.05 meters.

Surface and equipment: Indoor courts are usually hardwood (maple) for durability and ball bounce. Outdoor basketball surfaces are concrete, asphalt, or synthetic coatings designed to tolerate weather and wear. Each end has a backboard, a rim, and a net; the backboard is typically glass or acrylic. Facilities may include a shot clock, scorer's table, and seating for spectators, depending on level of play.

Use and variations: Basketbanor support a range of activities from formal league games to training and community recreation. Indoor courts are common in schools, sports halls, and clubs, while outdoor courts are often found in parks, schools, and public housing areas. Some courts are multipurpose and can be used for other sports or activities.

Maintenance: Regular cleaning, resurfacing of worn floors, repainting lines, and checking equipment help ensure safety and performance. Outdoor courts may require sealing and drainage improvements to prevent water damage.
