Location and terrain: In most versions of the setting, Basarea sits in the central lowlands of the fictional continent of Lyria. It is defined by a large drainage basin that feeds a network of rivers, seasonal wetlands, and floodplains bounded by distant uplands. Etymology: The name combines elements from a hypothetical local language meaning “low” or “basin” with a common geographic suffix. In-text usage varies by author, but Basarea consistently conveys the sense of a broad, low-lying hinterland.
