Bandführung

Bandführung is a German compound term combining Band (strip, tape, or ensemble) and Führung (guidance or leadership). It is used in technical and organizational contexts to describe either the lateral guiding of continuous materials in industrial processes or the direction of a musical or performance band.

In industry, Bandführung (also called web guiding or strip guiding) refers to systems that control the transverse position of moving webs such as paper, film, foil, textiles and metal strips. Typical components include edge or register sensors (optical, ultrasonic, capacitive or camera-based), actuators (servo motors, pneumatic cylinders or electromechanical steering rollers) and control electronics implementing feedback algorithms (often PID). Common guiding methods are edge guiding, centerline guiding and pattern/register guiding. Effective bandführung reduces material waste, improves print and winding registration, prevents web breaks and enables higher production speeds. Applications appear in printing, packaging, converting, laminating and metal processing.
