BCAs
Biological control agents, or BCAs, are living organisms or their products used to suppress pest populations and plant diseases. They form a key component of sustainable agriculture and integrated pest management by reducing reliance on chemical pesticides. BCAs include bacteria, fungi, nematodes, predatory insects, and parasitoid insects, as well as the microbial products they produce that inhibit pests or pathogens.
BCAs work through a range of mechanisms. Antagonistic microorganisms may compete for space and nutrients, produce
Applications of BCAs occur in various settings, including field crops, fruits and vegetables, nurseries, and postharvest
Advantages of BCAs include reduced chemical inputs, lower risk of off-target harm, and potential for self-perpetuation
