Audiotyöasema

Audiotyöasema, often abbreviated as DAW (Digital Audio Workstation), is a software application or a hardware device used for recording, editing, mixing, and producing audio. These systems allow for the manipulation of sound in a digital format, offering a wide range of tools for audio professionals and hobbyists alike.

A typical DAW software provides a graphical interface where users can arrange audio tracks on a timeline. Functions include cutting, copying, pasting, and moving audio clips. Advanced features often incorporate non-destructive editing, virtual instruments, audio effects processors such as reverb, delay, and equalization, and the ability to automate parameters over time. Many DAWs also support MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) input and output, enabling the control of synthesizers and samplers.

Hardware-based DAWs, while less common today, were integrated units that combined recording, mixing, and mastering capabilities into a single console.
