Astah

Astah is a family of diagramming and modeling tools developed by Change Vision, Inc. It provides a visual environment for software design, systems engineering, and data modeling, enabling users to create, organize, and analyze models that capture requirements, architecture, and behavior.

The software supports a range of diagram types, including UML 2.x diagrams (such as class, sequence, use case, state, activity, component, and deployment diagrams), entity-relationship diagrams, data flow diagrams, flowcharts, and mind maps. It is designed to help with both modeling and documentation, allowing diagrams to be used as a central reference throughout the development lifecycle.

Astah offers features for code engineering, including reverse engineering from source code to create diagrams and code generation from models. Language support for reverse and forward engineering varies by edition, with additional capabilities often provided through plugins and extensions. The platform emphasizes interoperability and export options, enabling output to formats such as images, PDFs, and XMI, as well as import of models from other tools when supported.

The product is available in several editions, including Astah Community, a free version for non-commercial use, and paid editions such as Astah Professional that combine multiple modeling capabilities. Specialized editions, such as those focused on SysML and enterprise modeling, address broader systems engineering needs.

Astah runs on major desktop operating systems as a Java-based application, making it cross-platform and suitable for diverse development environments.
