It is typically applied to the occlusal surfaces of natural teeth or dental restorations during the process of adjusting a patient's bite. The material is sensitive to pressure, and when teeth come together, the coating transfers to the surfaces that are in contact. This transfer creates visible marks that indicate areas of premature contact, high spots, or uneven occlusion.
