Appleproducing refers to the agricultural practice of cultivating apples, selecting cultivars, and harvesting fruit for fresh consumption, processing, or export. The practice has a long history, with apple domestication in Central Asia and subsequent spread across temperate regions. Today, major producers include China and the United States, followed by many European and other Asian countries.

Commercial appleproducing relies on orchard systems with grafted cultivars on suitable rootstocks, careful pruning, thinning, irrigation, and nutrition management. Pest and disease control often uses integrated pest management, sanitation, and careful monitoring to reduce chemical inputs.

Varieties grown vary by climate and market. Common fresh market varieties include Gala, Golden Delicious, Granny Smith, Red Delicious, Fuji, and Honeycrisp, alongside regional cultivars selected for storage, flavor, and resilience.

Geographic distribution reflects climate suitability. China, the United States (notably Washington state), Poland, India, Italy, Turkey, and Russia are among the leading producers, with apples forming a significant portion of agricultural output and export revenue.

Challenges include pests such as codling moth and apple maggot, diseases like fire blight, and weather-related risks such as frost or hail. Global market prices, labor costs, and climate change impact profitability and production strategies.

Sustainability efforts emphasize reduced pesticide use, improved pollination practices, water and soil management, and postharvest handling to minimize waste.
