Anticorupie

Anticorupie is the set of policies and practices aimed at reducing corruption in public administration and related sectors, including bribery, embezzlement, nepotism, and illicit influence. It covers efforts to prevent, detect, and sanction corrupt behavior across public, private, and civil society spaces.

It encompasses legal frameworks (anti-corruption laws, conflict of interest rules, asset disclosure), institutional mechanisms (independent anti-corruption agencies, prosecutors, courts), and procedural reforms (transparent public procurement, financial oversight, beneficial ownership transparency). It also includes governance measures such as codes of conduct, internal controls, and audit systems designed to deter improper activities.

Transparency and civic participation are central, including freedom of information laws, open data initiatives, routine audits, media oversight, and civil society monitoring. These elements aim to increase accountability and public trust while enabling independent scrutiny of government actions and business practices.

International frameworks guide national efforts. UNCAC and the OECD Anti-Bribery Convention are prominent examples, alongside European Union directives and regional agreements. Many countries maintain dedicated bodies; international organizations provide guidance, monitoring, and technical assistance to support reform and capacity building.

Effectiveness varies by jurisdiction and depends on the independence of institutions, political will, and available resources. Challenges include political interference, regulatory capture, cross-border corruption, and enforcement gaps. Notable examples exist in many regions, including Romania, where specialized anti-corruption bodies have pursued high-profile prosecutions, reflecting both potential gains and ongoing reform needs.
