Alsootus

The three species of Alsootus are:

1. Alsootus montanus: This species is found in the Andes Mountains of Colombia and Ecuador. It has a blue-gray body with a black cap and a distinctive white crest. The male and female have similar plumage, but the male has a longer crest.

2. Alsootus swainsoni: Also known as the Swainson's cotinga, this species is found in the eastern slopes of the Andes in Colombia and Venezuela. It has a blue-gray body with a black cap and a white crest. The male has a longer crest than the female.

3. Alsootus melanopterus: This species is found in the eastern slopes of the Andes in Colombia and Venezuela. It has a blue-gray body with a black cap and a white crest. The male has a longer crest than the female.

Alsootus birds are known for their loud, distinctive calls, which they use to communicate with each other. They are also known for their aggressive behavior, particularly towards other cotingas. Despite their aggressive behavior, Alsootus birds are not considered a threat to humans and are not typically hunted for their meat or feathers.
