Abszcesszust

Abszcesszust is a medical term referring to a localized collection of pus within a bodily cavity. This pus is typically composed of dead white blood cells, bacteria, and other cellular debris. Abscesses can form in various parts of the body, both on the surface of the skin and deep within internal organs. Common causes include bacterial infections, though other microorganisms can also be responsible. The body's immune system attempts to wall off the infection, leading to the formation of the abscess.

Symptoms of an abscess can vary depending on its location and size. Superficial abscesses, like boils on the skin, often present as painful, red, swollen lumps that may eventually rupture and drain. Deeper abscesses can be more insidious, with symptoms such as fever, chills, and general malaise. Pain at the site of the abscess is a common feature. Diagnosis is usually made through physical examination and can be confirmed with imaging studies like ultrasound or CT scans, especially for internal abscesses.

Treatment for abscesses typically involves draining the pus to remove the source of infection. This can be done through a surgical incision for larger or deeper abscesses, or it may resolve spontaneously for very small superficial ones. Antibiotics are often prescribed to combat the underlying infection and prevent its spread. In some cases, particularly with internal abscesses, more extensive surgical intervention or prolonged antibiotic therapy may be necessary. Prompt medical attention is important to prevent complications such as sepsis, which is a life-threatening bloodstream infection.
