Aatelisto
Aatelisto, or the Finnish nobility, refers to the class of hereditary noble families that formed a distinct estate in Finland’s historical political order. The term covers those who held noble titles and were granted certain legal privileges within the Swedish realm and, later, the Grand Duchy of Finland under Russian rule. The core of the aatelisto consisted of landowning families, high-ranking officers, and senior administrators, with membership often hereditary and tied to heraldry and coats of arms. Common titles included kreivi (count) and vapaaherra (baron), as well as knights (ritarit).
