Armförslutning, in medical terminology, refers to the process of surgically securing the bones of the upper limb after a fracture or dislocation. The primary purpose of armförslutning is to align the damaged bones (closed reduction) and maintain that alignment during the healing period, reducing the risk of malunion or nonunion. The procedure can be performed by either closed or open techniques. A closed reduction is performed externally, using manual manipulation or specialized cast or splint devices, whereas an open reduction allows direct surgical access to the bone and often involves the placement of internal fixation devices such as plates, screws, rods or external fixation pins.
