Åtstramningen

Åtstramningen, also known as "austerity" in English, refers to a policy of reducing government spending and increasing taxation to reduce a budget deficit or national debt. This economic strategy is often employed during times of financial crisis or economic downturn. The term "åtstramningen" is derived from the Swedish words "åt" (to) and "stramna" (to tighten), reflecting the idea of tightening fiscal policy.
