Whispertõlkimise, often translated as whisper interpreting, is a specialized form of simultaneous interpreting. In whisper interpreting, the interpreter sits or stands next to the target audience member or small group and renders the speech into the target language in a low voice, barely audible to others. This technique is particularly useful in situations where a full interpretation booth or equipment is not feasible, or when only one or a few individuals require interpretation.

The interpreter typically listens to the speaker through a discreet earphone or directly, and then whispers the interpretation into the ear of the recipient. This method demands a high level of concentration from the interpreter, as they must simultaneously process the source language, interpret its meaning, and deliver the message in a hushed tone. It is generally considered less intrusive than full simultaneous interpreting, as it does not require large soundproof booths or dedicated audio equipment for each listener. However, it is also more demanding for the interpreter and can be tiring over extended periods. Whisper interpreting is commonly employed in business meetings, tours, diplomatic events, or any setting where a small number of participants need to understand a presentation or conversation in a different language without disrupting the flow or requiring elaborate technical setups.
