Wallboxes are wall-mounted electric vehicle charging points installed at homes or businesses. They supply controllable electrical power to electric cars and other plug-in EVs by connecting to the building's electrical system on a dedicated circuit. Most units include a protective enclosure, a charging connector or tethered cable, and mounting hardware.

Installation is typically on an exterior or interior wall and may be suitable for outdoor use with weatherproof enclosures. A qualified electrician should perform the wiring to local electrical codes and standards. Some models support alternative mounting, such as freestanding brackets, for garages or parking spaces.

Power levels vary by model and supply. Common home units deliver around 3.7 kW to 7.4 kW, while higher-end models can provide 11 kW or 22 kW when three-phase power is available. The vehicle’s onboard charger determines the actual charging speed.

Many wallboxes offer smart features such as network connectivity, mobile apps, scheduling, and energy management. They may support RFID or app authentication, remote monitoring, and integration with demand-response programs or smart home systems.

Wallboxes are designed to meet national electrical and EV charging standards and typically include residual current devices (RCDs) and safety interlocks. Common connector types include Type 2 in Europe and J1772 in North America, with appropriate cable or socket configurations.

Usage considerations include installation cost, ongoing charging costs, and potential incentives. For many users, a wallbox provides convenient, faster home charging compared with standard household outlets.
