The width of the woven band is determined by the number of warp threads used, with each card controlling a set of threads.

The process involves threading warp yarns through the holes of the cards. The cards are then arranged in a desired order, and the weaver turns them in a clockwise or counter-clockwise direction, or in combinations of turns. This turning action creates a shed, through which the weft thread is passed to interlace with the warp. Different turning sequences result in different patterns and textures.
