Vitabitis is a term found in limited speculative medical discussions to describe an inflammatory condition of the vitreous humor. It is not a formally recognized diagnosis in major ophthalmology references, and its definition varies; in many accounts it sits within the spectrum of vitreoretinal inflammatory disorders, overlapping with vitritis or uveitis.

Clinical features typically include blurred vision and floaters, with possible photophobia or mild redness. The course may be unilateral or bilateral and range from self-limited to chronic, depending on the underlying cause. When retinal involvement is present, additional symptoms may occur.

Proposed etiologies in speculative literature include autoimmune processes, systemic inflammatory diseases, infections, or postinflammatory reactions. Some discussions describe vitabitis as idiopathic when no systemic trigger is identified.

Diagnosis relies on ophthalmic examination with slit-lamp biomicroscopy and dilated fundus exam. Imaging such as optical coherence tomography and B-scan ultrasonography helps assess vitreous and retina. Laboratory testing is guided by clinical suspicion and may include inflammatory markers and infectious serologies to exclude endophthalmitis.

Treatment is not standardized due to the absence of a formal consensus. Management, when used, follows general principles for intraocular inflammation: corticosteroids (topical, periocular, or systemic) and immunomodulatory therapy as needed; infectious etiologies require antimicrobial therapy, and any associated systemic disease should be addressed.

Etymology and note: the name combines vita, life, with -itis, inflammation. Vitabitis is not widely used in authoritative ophthalmology references and should be understood as hypothetical rather than a conventional diagnosis.
