Visszérgyulladás, or phlebitis, is an inflammation of a vein. It most commonly affects the superficial veins of the legs, but can also occur in deeper veins. The condition is often associated with varicose veins, which are enlarged, twisted veins that are more prone to inflammation.

The primary symptom of visszérgyulladás is pain and tenderness along the affected vein. The skin over the inflamed vein may appear red, warm, and swollen. A palpable, hardened cord may be felt beneath the skin. In some cases, a small lump may form along the vein.

Visszérgyulladás can be caused by several factors. Trauma to the vein, such as from an injury or injection, can trigger inflammation. Prolonged immobility, such as during long periods of travel or bed rest, can lead to blood stasis, increasing the risk of phlebitis. Blood clots, known as thrombi, can also form within the vein and cause inflammation. Certain medical conditions, such as clotting disorders or infections, can also contribute to the development of visszérgyulladás.

Treatment for visszérgyulladás typically involves conservative measures. Elevating the affected limb helps to reduce swelling and improve blood flow. Applying warm compresses can also provide relief from pain and inflammation. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) may be recommended to manage pain and reduce inflammation. If a blood clot is suspected, anticoagulant medication may be prescribed to prevent the clot from growing or dislodging. In cases of severe or recurrent visszérgyulladás, further investigation and treatment may be necessary.
