viivavihko

Viivavihko, or ruled notebook, is a type of notebook with horizontal lines on each page to guide handwriting. It is a common stationery item in Finland and is widely used for schoolwork, note-taking, and personal writing. The defining feature is the ruled layout: evenly spaced horizontal lines that help keep text aligned. Many editions also include a left-hand margin for page numbers or annotations, and some have perforated pages for easy removal or pre-punched holes for binders. Page sizes and line spacings vary by product, with common formats including A5 and A6, and different line spacings to suit different ages and handwriting styles.

In education, viivavihko is used for practicing handwriting, writing exercises, and taking lecture notes. It is typically preferred when neat, straight lines are desired and is often taught alongside other notebook formats such as ruutuvihko (grid notebook) and tyhjä vihko (blank notebook).
