Veshti is a traditional garment worn by men in parts of South Asia, most notably Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, and Sri Lanka. It refers to a long rectangular piece of cloth, typically four-and-a-half to six meters in length, woven from cotton for everyday wear and from silk or silk-cotton blends for festive occasions. The veshti is wrapped around the waist and legs in a specific drape, with folds or pleats at the front and the fabric usually tucked in at the back to secure the garment.

Regional variants reflect local customs. In Tamil Nadu and parts of Sri Lanka, the term veshti is commonly used, while in Kerala the similar garment is known as a mundu and is often worn with a Kasavu (gold or cream) border for weddings and temple ceremonies. In everyday use, plain white cotton veshti with a simple border or no border is common. The veshti is typically worn with a shirt or kurta and may be accompanied by an angavastram, a shawl-like cloth draped over the shoulders.

Wearing style and function vary by occasion. For formal or ceremonial occasions, the veshti may be made from silk or a silk-blend fabric and feature a decorative border, while everyday versions prioritize comfort and breathability. The garment is valued for its suitability in hot climates and its cultural associations with tradition, modesty, and ceremony.

Modern variations include pre-stitched or ready-to-wear veshtis designed for easier draping, but the traditional method of wrapping and pleating remains a distinctive aspect of the garment.
