Underpassing is the act of passing beneath an obstruction or structure, or the provision of a route designed for that purpose. The term commonly applies in transportation and infrastructure to pedestrian, vehicular, railway or wildlife routes that pass under roads, bridges, embankments or rail lines. It also appears in planning and engineering discussions as a verb describing the construction or use of such beneath-crossings.
