The symptoms of thermophobia are similar to those of other phobias and can include rapid heartbeat, sweating, trembling, shortness of breath, nausea, dizziness, and a feeling of choking. In severe cases, individuals may experience panic attacks. The phobia can significantly impact a person's life, leading to social isolation, avoidance of outdoor activities, and difficulty in daily tasks.

The exact causes of thermophobia are not fully understood, but like other phobias, it may stem from a traumatic experience involving heat, learned behavior from observing others' fear of heat, or a combination of genetic and environmental factors. Treatment typically involves psychotherapy, particularly cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and exposure therapy. CBT helps individuals identify and challenge their irrational thoughts about heat, while exposure therapy gradually exposes them to feared situations in a controlled and safe manner to reduce their anxiety response.
