Tetanusdap is a combination vaccine that protects against three serious bacterial diseases: tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis. It is an updated version of the tetanus and diphtheria toxoids combined with acellular pertussis vaccine (Tdap). The "dap" in tetanusdap refers to diphtheria, acellular pertussis, and tetanus.

Tetanus, often called lockjaw, is caused by a bacterium found in soil, dust, and manure. The bacteria can enter the body through cuts or puncture wounds, leading to painful muscle stiffness and spasms. Diphtheria is a highly contagious respiratory illness caused by bacteria that produce a toxin, damaging the throat, nose, and sometimes skin. Pertussis, or whooping cough, is also a contagious respiratory illness caused by bacteria, characterized by severe coughing fits.

The tetanusdap vaccine is recommended for adolescents and adults. It is typically given as a single booster dose, replacing the previous Td (tetanus and diphtheria) booster. Pregnant women are recommended to receive a dose of tetanusdap during each pregnancy to protect their newborns from pertussis. It is also recommended for individuals who have not previously received a Tdap vaccine. Like all vaccines, tetanusdap can cause mild side effects such as soreness, redness, or swelling at the injection site, and low-grade fever. Serious side effects are rare.
