In many settings, technomancers interface directly with electronic systems, override security, repair hardware, or conjure digital constructs such as avatars or data spectres. They may rely on innate talent, formal technomagic training, or cybernetic and nanotech augmentations, with powers framed as spells that affect circuits or software that follows magical logic.

The technomancer archetype appears in role-playing games, video games, and speculative fiction. In games they often occupy a niche between spellcasters and hackers, using resource pools or mana-like mechanics to manipulate networks, while in cyberpunk or space-operas they function as elite operatives who manipulate both machines and information.

Variations exist in framing: some settings treat technomancy as a scientific reinterpretation of magic, others present it as emergent properties of digital ecosystems or alien influence.
