Voice disorders affect the quality, pitch, or loudness of the voice. This might involve hoarseness, breathiness, a strained or tense voice, or changes in pitch. These can be caused by problems with the vocal cords, such as nodules or paralysis, or by functional issues related to how the voice is used.

Resonance disorders relate to the way sound resonates in the nasal or oral cavities. Conditions like cleft palate can lead to hypernasality (too much air escaping through the nose) or hyponasality (not enough nasal resonance).
