suurennuksella

Suurennuksella is Finnish for “under magnification” or “with magnification.” It is formed from the noun suurennus (magnification) plus the instrumental suffix -lla, indicating that something is viewed or presented using a magnifying instrument. The term is mainly used in scientific and educational contexts to describe observations or images produced when an object is examined through a magnifier, a microscope, or other optical devices.

In practice, suurennuksella is used to indicate the level of magnification, often in phrases such as suurennuksella 40x, 400x or 1000x, or as 40-kertainen suurennus. The total magnification depends on the combination of lenses (for example, eyepiece and objective in light microscopy) and is sometimes referred to as kokonaiset suurennukset.

A key related concept is that magnification is not the same as detail. High magnification can reveal larger images but does not by itself improve resolvability; resolution is determined by factors such as wavelength of light and numerical aperture of the optics. Consequently, practical observation at high magnification requires appropriate optical quality and sample preparation; otherwise, the image may appear enlarged but not more informative.
