Surfacesand is an engineered surface coating designed to impart a sand-like texture to architectural and decorative surfaces. It combines a granular aggregate with a resin binder to form a single-layer or multi-layer finish. The granules can be silica, ceramic, or a blend, and may range from fine to coarse to achieve a spectrum of textures from subtle to pronounced.

Composition and properties: A typical Surfacesand system includes the aggregate, a resin binder (such as epoxy or polyurethane), and optional pigments or additives. The binder adheres the grains to the substrate and to each other, creating a durable, weather-resistant film. The texture provides slip resistance and can be tailored for abrasion resistance, UV stability, and color retention. Typical thicknesses vary from about 0.5 to 5 millimeters depending on the texture level and performance requirements.

Applications: Surfacesand is used on exterior facades, interior walls, countertops, flooring, and outdoor walkways where a tactile, sand-like finish is desired. It adheres to concrete, masonry, and some properly primed substrates and can be color-stable under various climates.

Manufacturing and application: The system is mixed in batches and applied by spray, trowel, or roller, then allowed to cure. A top coat may be applied to adjust color, provide enhanced water repellency, or add additional protection in aggressive environments.

Maintenance and safety: The finish is durable but may require periodic cleaning and occasional resealing in high-wear areas.
