Struktuuraalne is a concept in the context of structural linguistics and Semiotics, referring to the study of the deep underlying structure of language. This notion was introduced by Russian linguist Nikolai Trubetskoy in the early 20th century. Trubetskoy argued that the sounds, signs, or symbols in a language have no inherent meaning, but instead, they gain their meaning through their structural relationships with other elements.

Struktuuraalne theory posits that the meaning of a linguistic unit is determined by its position within the system, rather than by its intrinsic qualities. This was a radical departure from traditional views of language, which focused on the individual words or signs themselves. The rationale behind struktuuraalne theory is that language should be seen as a self-organizing system with its own intrinsic rules and patterns.
