A spindryer, or spin dryer, is a drying device that removes moisture from items by high-speed rotation. In its simplest form, a perforated drum is mounted on a motor; as the drum spins, centrifugal force pushes water from the wet contents outward through the fabric and drum walls, where it exits through a drain or reservoir. No heat is generally applied, so the process relies on mechanical action to reduce moisture.

Domestic spin dryers typically handle 3 to 8 kilograms of laundry per cycle and operate at speeds around 1000 to 1500 revolutions per minute. They leave fabrics damp rather than dry, with residual moisture usually in the range of roughly 40 to 60 percent by weight depending on fabric type and load balance. Some units are standalone appliances, while others are integrated with washing machines or exist as compact portable models for shared or small spaces.

Industrial and laboratory spin dryers are larger and designed for batch or continuous operation, handling textiles, paper products, plastics, or filtered slurries. These machines emphasize higher throughput and robust construction; some configurations allow higher spin speeds or integration with subsequent drying steps. While many industrial spin dryers are unheated, other systems may incorporate heating as part of a broader drying process.

Advantages of spindrying include low energy usage relative to heated dryers and fast moisture removal without heat exposure to fabrics. Limitations include incomplete drying for many items, potential fabric wear from high-speed rotation, and the need for properly balanced loads to prevent excessive vibration and wear. Proper maintenance, load management, and adherence to fabric care guidelines help optimize performance.
