Spillrör is a term used in plumbing to describe a pipe that carries away liquids that spill or may overflow from a container, fixture, or system. The purpose of a spillrör is to prevent flooding and to direct excess water to an appropriate drainage path.

In household installations, spillrör are commonly integrated with sinks, bathtubs, and toilets as an overflow outlet. When water rises above a fixture’s normal level, the spillrör provides a controlled path to the drain, helping to prevent damage and water waste. The pipe is typically connected to the fixture’s waste line or to a dedicated overflow channel inside the fixture.

In other applications, spillrör are used to manage overflows in tanks, cisterns, and rainwater systems. An overflow pipe placed near the top of a tank or barrel allows excess water to be discharged safely to the drainage system or to a dedicated overflow receptacle. In weather-related systems, spillrör help prevent overfilling during heavy rainfall and can be combined with vents or anti-siphon features in larger installations.

The diameter and routing depend on the expected volume of overflow and the layout of the drainage system. Proper installation often requires ensuring a continuous path to drain, appropriate slope, and avoidance of blockages.
