Spenningsmålere, also known as strain gauges, are sensors used to measure the deformation or strain of an object. They work by utilizing the piezoresistive effect, where the electrical resistance of a material changes in response to mechanical strain. A typical spenningsmåler consists of a thin, flexible foil or wire patterned into a grid. When this grid is bonded to the surface of an object, any strain in the object causes a corresponding strain in the grid. This strain alters the length and cross-sectional area of the conductive elements, thereby changing their electrical resistance.
This change in resistance is very small, so spenningsmålere are usually connected in a Wheatstone bridge configuration.
