Sovittelua, also known as sovittelu, is a dispute resolution method in which a neutral third party, a mediator, helps two or more parties reach a voluntary agreement. It is a form of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) that emphasizes dialogue, collaboration, and the parties’ own decision-making, while preserving autonomy and confidentiality.

The typical process involves voluntary participation, the selection of a mediator, and a series of sessions that may be conducted jointly or privately. The mediator’s role is to clarify issues, help identify underlying interests, generate options, and structure negotiations.
