Known as soil-release agents (SRA), these polymeric compounds form a thin, often invisible film on fiber surfaces or become bound to the fabric, altering surface properties to make soils easier to wash out.

Applications are primarily in textile finishing, especially for cotton and cotton blends, to improve cleanability after wear and use.
