Slutnoder is a term used in computer networking, particularly in Scandinavian technical literature, to denote end devices at the edge of a network that originate or terminate communications. In Swedish and Norwegian, slut means end and noder means nodes, distinguishing these devices from intermediate nodes such as routers and switches that forward traffic. The English-language ambiguity is acknowledged, but the Scandinavian usage is unrelated to the sexual insult in English.

Definition and scope: End nodes include hosts and devices that generate or consume data, such as personal computers, smartphones, sensors, actuators, and industrial controllers. They are endpoints in the communication path and may connect via wired or wireless access networks. They are typically addressed at the network layer and may participate in application-layer protocols directly or through gateways.
