Sleutelintrekking, often translated as "key pulling" or "key withdrawal," is a phenomenon primarily observed in the context of certain types of mechanical locks. It refers to a situation where a key, when inserted into a lock cylinder, cannot be fully withdrawn or requires excessive force to do so. This problem can arise due to a variety of reasons, often stemming from wear and tear or misalignment within the lock mechanism.

One common cause is the wear of tumblers or pins within the lock cylinder. Over time, these internal components can become slightly deformed or their springs weakened, preventing them from returning to their neutral position correctly when the correct key is turned. This mispositioning can then obstruct the free movement of the key. Another factor can be dirt, debris, or corrosion accumulating inside the lock. These foreign materials can create friction and impede the smooth operation of the pins and the key's passage.

Misalignment, either of the key itself or the lock cylinder, can also lead to sleutelintrekking. If the key is bent or damaged, it might not fully engage with the tumblers in the correct way. Similarly, if the lock cylinder has shifted slightly from its original position, the internal components may not align properly with the key's cuts. In some cases, the issue might be related to the strike plate on the door frame, where a misaligned lock bolt can put pressure on the cylinder, making key withdrawal difficult. Addressing sleutelintrekking typically involves cleaning the lock, lubricating it with a graphite-based lubricant, or in more severe cases, repairing or replacing the lock cylinder.
