Skyttergravsområder, often referred to as trench systems, are fortified military positions characterized by a network of deep, narrow trenches dug into the ground. These trenches provide protection for soldiers against enemy fire, primarily small arms and artillery. They typically include parapets, which are raised sections of earth or sandbags at the front of the trench to offer additional cover, and parados, which are similar defensive features at the rear. Communication trenches and dugouts, or shelters, are often integrated into the system to allow for movement between different sections and provide refuge during bombardments.
