The resolution of a scanning unit is measured in dots per inch (DPI). Higher resolution scanners can capture more details and produce clearer images. Common resolutions range from 300 DPI to 1200 DPI or higher. Scanning units can also support color scanning, allowing for the capture of documents with color text or images.

In addition to scanning documents, scanning units can also be used for other purposes, such as capturing images of artwork, creating digital copies of photographs, and scanning barcodes for inventory management. They are an essential tool in the digital age, enabling the conversion of physical documents into digital formats for easier storage, sharing, and manipulation.
