Sensorlens is an integrated optical imaging module that combines a light-sensitive sensor with a miniature lens system in a single compact unit. By uniting the sensor and optics into one package, sensorlens aims to simplify manufacturing, improve optical alignment, and enable very small form factors suitable for modern compact devices and specialized sensing applications.

Typical sensorlens assemblies include a CMOS or CCD image sensor, a fixed or limited-range zoom lens, and simple optical elements such as microlenses, color or infrared filters, all arranged with a short back focal length. Some designs employ additional features such as autofocus, liquid lenses, or MEMS-based tunable optics, though many implementations remain fixed-focus for cost and reliability.

Advantages include reduced assembly steps, tighter tolerances, smaller size, and potential cost savings in high-volume production. Limitations can include reduced flexibility compared with separate camera modules, constraints on sensor size, and challenges related to thermal management and optical calibration over time.

Sensorlens finds uses in mobile devices, wearable cameras, embedded sensing in drones and robotics, medical imaging tools, automotive and surveillance sensors, and other applications requiring compact, reliable imagery with minimal integration effort.

Development in sensorlens technology draws on advances in wafer-level packaging, micro-optics, and 3D stacking. Ongoing work explores interchangeable or tunable optics within a sensorlens form factor and on-device processing to compensate for optical distortions.
