Physical self-defense training should be proportionate to the threat and lawful; the objective is to create an opportunity to escape and seek assistance. Laws regarding self-defense vary by jurisdiction and training should be based on reputable programs.

Digital self-protection encompasses cybersecurity and privacy practices: strong, unique passwords with multi-factor authentication; regular software updates; cautious handling of links and attachments; data minimization; encryption and secure communications; and mindful sharing of personal information.

Practical measures include home safety planning (door and window locks, outdoor lighting, security cameras or alarm systems), personal safety planning (routes, safe spaces, informing others of whereabouts), and travel safety. Tools such as safety apps, personal alarms, and GPS trackers can supplement awareness and quick access to help.

Self-protection is a broad concept and context matters; it reduces risk but cannot eliminate all danger. It should be practiced without blaming victims and with respect for legal and ethical constraints.
